  1. Leading Index are the indicators which provide an early signal of any changes on the direction of the economy for several month ahead.

  2. Meanwhile, the Coincident Index measures current situation of the economy that can be used as a proxy to monthly GDP. 

  3. Lagging Index is acts as to confirm the track of the economic movement which reflected by the Coincident Index. 

  4. The data used for the compilation of those indices were seasonally adjusted.

Business Tendency Statistics

  1. This publication contains statistics on various sectors of the economy in Malaysia based on the data collected from the Quarterly Business Tendency Survey.

  2. The report presents qualitative indicators of the outcome for the past three months as well as the expectations for the next three and six months. An accounting concept known as “net balance” has been used in analysing the results.

  3. Detailed statistical tables are included to facilitate users in analysing the current business situation and forecasting short-term economic developments in Malaysia.

  4. Explanatory notes relating to the survey methodology, concepts, questionnaire, data collection etc. are provided to facilitate greater understanding among users.
